Many plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technologies on the market capture energy generated during breaking or deceleration and reuse it. It's called “Launch Assist,” and it's great if you're driving a city bus or a garbage truck. Utility vehicles usually work a little different – they sit in one spot for extended periods while they're working.
The HyPower™ hybrid system by Terex® is a simple solution for the utility industry. There are fewer components and it utilizes a standard PTO, standard pump and a separate motor generator. It doesn't interfere with the normal operation of the OEM chassis transmission therefore towing capacities are not effected like some other systems. Plus, the hybrid electrical/battery system utilizes off-peak energy during recharging – simply plug it into a standard 110V – 20 amp circuit outlet overnight and you're good to go in the morning…for 6 to 8 hours of operating time.
